About
Emily Beeman
Born in Ovid, MI
Lives & works in Grand Rapids, MI

Emily's work is about mortality—she’s interested in the idea that every feeling and physical state is fleeting. Death, on the other hand, is definitive, infinite, and inevitable. White-tailed deer appear in her work as symbols of fragility: they’re vulnerable bodies and often subject to a gruesome fate as creatures of prey. Her upbringing in Michigan rurality gave her a deep appreciation for the natural world and its cyclical relationship of beauty and cruelty. She’s shown her work both locally and internationally, and graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design in May of 2022 with a bachelors in Drawing.
